Meet Sonya
Founder, Chief Brand & Marketing Strategist
Sonya's experience with both for profit and nonprofit organizations gives her a unique level of expertise in branding and marketing. Her career began within consumer packaged goods companies including Del Monte Foods, Big Heart Pet Brands, and the JM Smucker Company, giving her acumen in business management across B2B and B2C. Her superpower is helping organizations clarify their goals and linking them to clear and actionable strategies and plans.
Before founding Maevnco, Sonya expanded her expertise by working in senior nonprofit roles. She oversaw the creation of the marketing function at Tides, a multi-billion dollar, social justice-focused nonprofit specializing in philanthropic services and fiscal sponsorship. She is proud to have worked with the philanthropy team to help establish their newly-developed pooled funding initiatives including Healthy Democracy Fund, Women’s Environmental Leadership Fund (WE LEAD), and Frontline Justice Fund.
Prior to Tides, she worked with Mission Minded, a nonprofit branding agency helping organizations across the country develop their brand strategy and key messages. Her clients included Napa Valley Community Foundation, Carolina Friends School, Summer Search, and the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights.
Sonya’s passion for business and marketing began at the University of Virginia where she holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Darden School of Business.
A native Southerner, Sonya is proud to live a bi-coastal lifestyle, splitting her time between the east and west coast.
